The Fasnakyle-to-Bingally 132kV connection is still at pre-application stage, but its environmental assessment requirement is already on record. Scottish Ministers' screening opinion, dated 11 June 2026, says any future Section 37 application for consent must include a full Environmental Impact Assessment report.

The opinion identifies possible significant environmental effects, including potential impacts on ancient woodland. At the time of screening, the underground cable route to the proposed Bingally substation had not been detailed. Highland Council's 1 May response said the overhead-line works and the onward cable connection were co-dependent.

A pre-application consultation notice submitted on 15 September by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc describes a new overhead-line section between Tower 201 and proposed Tower 200R, removal of about 440m of existing line at the Beauly-Denny tie-in, and access-track and temporary-compound works. The notice places the connection south of Cannich, between Fasnakyle and the Beauly-Denny tie-in, about 5.5km north of the proposed Bingally substation.

Highland's record says the notice was received on 18 September and remains Under Consideration. This is a consultation ahead of a future application, not consent; no construction decision is established.
